A verb describes an action. It tells us what someone or something is doing. A sentence is incomplete without verbs.

A mother is telling a story to her children. All the children are listening to the story very carefully. The children are sitting on the ground. The mother is sitting on the chair. She is holding a book. The children are looking at her. They are smiling. The underlined words are verbs and describe actions.
