In a village six fruit merchants sold the following number of fruit baskets in a particular season. Observe this pictograph and answer the following questions. (a) Which merchant sold the maximum number of baskets? (b) How many fruit baskets were sold by Anwar? (c) The merchants who have sold 600 or more number of baskets are planning to buy a go down for the next season. Can you name them?

    Answer:

    (a) Given, 1 picture = 100 baskets \[\therefore \] Half picture = 50 baskets From the pictograph, we have Number of baskets sold by Rahim \[=4\times 100=400\] Number of baskets sold by Lakhanpal = 5 full 1 half\[~=5\times 100+1\times 50=550\] Number of baskets sold by Anwar \[=7\times 100=700\] Number of baskets sold by Martin = 9 full 1 half \[=9\times 100+1\times 50=950\] Number of baskets sold by Ranjit Singh \[=8\times 100=800\] and number of baskets sold by Joseph = 4 full 1 half \[=4\times 100+1\times 50=450\] Hence, Martin sold the maximum number of baskets i.e. 950. (b) From (a), Anwar sold 700 fruit baskets. (c) Yes, after observing the pictograph, we can say that Anwar, Martin and Ranjit Singh have sold 600 or more number of baskets and they are planning to buy a go down for the next season.
