How are the rates of consumption of energy and economic growth connected?

    Answer:

Rate of consumption of energy is directly related to the rate of economic growth as explained in the following points (i) Increase in output of agriculture sector depends largely on the adequate expansion and development of irrigation facilities and use of advanced technology in the form of mechanised agriculture. Energy consumption thus increases with increase in facilities to boost agriculture production and hence economic growth. (ii) Industrial production increase also depends on the development of power and electricity generation, transport and communication which need energy from different sources. (iii) With economic growth, the living standards of people in the country also begin to rise and domestic energy consumption increases as they start using more electrical appliances, vehicles consuming more petrol, etc.
