  • question_answer 1)
Describe the structure of the common form of ice.

    Answer:

Ice has a highly ordered three dimensional hydrogen bonded structure. Each oxygen atom is surrounded tetrahedrally by four other oxygen atoms, i.e., there is a hydrogen atom between each pair of oxygen atoms. This gives an open cage like structure. Each oxygen is surrounded by four hydrogen atoms, two by strong covalent bonds (95.7 pm) and two by weak hydrogen bonds (177 pm).
