Transition metals and their alloys are used to store hydrogen to be used as fuel. When metallic hydrides are heated, they are decomposed to give hydrogen, along with finely divided metals. Some of the metals such as Pd, Pt, etc., can accommodate a very large volumes of hydrogen and therefore, can be used as its storage media.
