  • question_answer 17) What would have happened if the greenhouse gases were totally missing in the earth's atmosphere? Discuss.

    Answer:

The solar energy radiated back from the earth's surface is absorbed by greenhouse gases which re-emit IR-radiations of longer wavelengths. These radiations heat up the atmosphere near the earth's surface and keep it warm. If there were no greenhouse gases, the earth would be a very cold place and there would have been no vegetation and life on the earth.
