Statues and monuments of India are affected by acid-rain. How? or Why is acid-rain considered as a threat to Taj Mahal?

    Answer:

Taj Mahal (statues and monuments) is made of marble. The acid-rain contains \[{{H}_{2}}S{{O}_{4}}\] which attacks the marble. \[CaC{{O}_{3}}+{{H}_{2}}S{{O}_{4}}\to CaS{{O}_{4}}+{{H}_{2}}O+C{{O}_{2}}\] As a result, the monuments (Taj Mahal) are being slowly corroded and the marble is getting discoloured and lustreless.
