*     Weather

Weather is the condition of the atmosphere at a place. It is associated with the temperature, humidity, speed of wind and rainfall etc. of a place. The maximum and minimum temperature at a place are also the important factor on which the weather of a place depends. Humidity is the amount of water vapor present in the air. Weather at a place changes on day to day basis. All weather phenomena, as such as, tornadoes, hurricanes, ice storms, etc. occur in the layer of troposphere. Weather of the earth at a particular area also depends on the weather phenomena which occurs in stratosphere. Different seasons on the earth happen due to the revolution and tilted axis of the earth. Uneven heating of the earth causes the cloudiness and precipitation. The parameters which are recorded on day to day basis at a place for weather records are, temperature (minimum and maximum), rain fall, humidity (minimum and maximum).

Look at the following table to understand the recorded parametres of weather at a place:

Date   Temperature Max. humidity Min. humidity (%) Rainfall (mm)
Max. temp Min. temp
10.4.11 32.5 22.2 78 42 -
11.4.11 30.3 21.3 81 53 3
12.4.11 39.4 22.5 82 55 -
13.4.11
14.4.11
15.4.11
16.4.11

*            Climate

Day to day weather of a place is preserved for long time which helps to determine the climate of that place. If the temperature of a place is high throughout the year then the climate of that place is said to be hot. A place at which rain fall is recorded during most of the day, throughout the year for a longer period of time (25 years), the climate of that place is said to be the hot and wet. The climate of the desert areas is said to be hot and dry, due to the scanty rainfall and less humidity.

question mark      The climate of a place is determined by the statistical observation of past weather data, recorded on day to day basis. What is the climate of a place if less rainfall is recorded throughout the year?

(a) Hot and wet

(b) Hot and humid

(c) Hot and dry

(d) All of these

(e) None of these

Answer: (c)

Explanation

The place at which less rainfall is recorded throughout the year is said to be the hot and dry climate. Therefore, option (c) is correct and rest of the options is incorrect.

question mark     Observe the following data of day to day temperature of a place:

Date Temperature
10.4.11 40
11.4.11 42
12.4.11 41
13.4.11 39
14.4.11 43
15.4.11 44
16.4.11 38

What would be the average temperature of the week?

(a)

(b)

(c)

(d)

(e) None of these

Answer: (A)

Explanation

The average temperature of the week's =

Therefore, option (a) is correct and rest of the options is incorrect.

Oxygen is necessary for combustion and life of living organism.

Aquatic animals breathe in oxygen dissolved in water.

Pure water is colourless, odourless, tasteless and transparent liquid

Water carry the minerals and other nutrients in the body of living organism.

Water on the earth is available in its all three forms, solid, liquid and gas.
