The inventor of Universal Product Code(UPC) or Barcode, George Joseph Laurer, passed away. His barcode invention at IBM (International Business Machines) corporation, transformed the retail industries as well as other industries across the world. He worked as an electrical engineer with IBM in North Carolina’s research triangle park in the early 1970s. Barcode is a ubiquitous marking, composed of unique black bars and a 12-digit number, that allows retailers to identify products by means of scanning the code. |
