  The 5th edition of International Army Scout Masters Competition with teams from 8 countries including India, China and Russia as participants was inaugurated at the Jaisalmer Military Station under the aegis of the Southern Command. Lt Gen DS Ahuja, Chief of Staff of the Indian Army’s Southern Command, and Deputy Defence Minister of Russia Yunus Bek Evkurov unveiled the trophy of the competition and unfolded the event’s flag at the inaugural ceremony. Army Scout Master Teams from Armenia, Belarus, China, Kazakhstan, Russia, Sudan, Uzbekistan and India are participating in the 9-day event from August 6 to 14.

  India successfully test-fired its all-weather tracked-chassis Quick Reaction Surface-to-Air Missile (QR-SAM) from a mobile launcher at launch complex III of the Integrated Test Range at Chandipur in Odisha. This Missile Jointly developed by Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and Bharat Electronics Ltd, the QR-SAM weapon system is a quick reaction, network-centric missile system capable of search-on-the-move. QR-SAM system can also engage multiple targets within a range of around 25 to 30 km with 2 vehicle configuration for area air defence. It is a truck-mounted missile with a 360 degree rotatable, electro-mechanically operated, turret-based launch unit.

 Defence Minister launched dashboard of Department Defence Production (DDP), Ministry of Defence. The dashboard will help the Ministry to keep track of the major components of Defence Production, including defence exports, defence offsets, Intellectual Property Rights and Mission Raksha Gyan Shakti.
The dashboard is available for the general public at “ddpdashboard.gov.in”.

 The Indian armed forces are all set to conduct the country’s first-ever simulated space warfare exercise “IndSpaceEx”.  This excercise will lead to an assessment of the “imminent threats” in the expanse beyond earth and the drafting of a joint space doctrine for futuristic battles. Ministry of Defencewill organize exercise with all three forces together.

  The Indian Navy commissioned its new Dornier Aircraft Squadron in Chennai. This is Indian Navy’s 5th Dornier Aircraft squadron. The Dornier squadron under Eastern Naval Command would strengthen Indian Navy’s efforts in maintaining constant surveillance and safe guarding maritime interests in the eastern seaboard of India.

  India and China will carry out a major military exercise called ‘Hand-in-Hand’ in December, 2019. The exercise will take place at Umroi, Meghalaya. It will be based on counter-terrorism, humanitarian assistance and disaster relief operations.

  Indian Naval Ship Tarkash arrived at Tangier, Morocco. The visit is part of an ongoing Overseas Deployment by the Indian Navy to the Mediterranean Sea, Africa and Europe. On its departure, INS Tarkash will carry out a Passage Exercise at sea with ships of the Royal Moroccan Navy.

  India has successfully tested the vertical steep dive version of the Brahmos supersonic cruise missile.  Made in India ‘Brahmos Aerospace’ is also ready with a longer 500 km range version of the Brahmos missile that can be fired from Sukhoi 30 fighter jets. BrahMos Aerospace is a joint venture company owned by the governments of Indiaand Russia and its missiles are produced in India.

  DRDO successfully tested Nag missiles in Pokhran ranges. The system includes a third generation Anti-Tank Guided Missile, the NAG, along with the Missile Carrier Vehicle (NAMICA). The Nag Missile has top attack capabilities that can effectively engage and destroy all known enemy tanks.
