 On February 17, 2020, the fourth National Conference of Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima yojana was held in Udaipur, Rajasthan. The Conference was organized by Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare.
  • Highlights
The Conference was attended by more than 140 members. It included members from NABARD (National Bank of Agriculture and Rural Development), RBI (Reserve Bank of India), insurance companies, etc. Currently, the scheme has three active participants namely the state government, banking sector and the insurance sector. According to the experts at the conference, for the scheme to achieve success, active participation of all the three stakeholders is essential.
  • Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana
The scheme was launched in 2016. It replaced the Modified National Agricultural Insurance Scheme and National Agricultural Insurance Scheme. Under the scheme the farmers are paid a premium of 2% for Kharif crops and 1.5% for Rabi crops in case of crop damages. The scheme is in line with One Nation-One Scheme theme.

  India’s Koneru Humpy wins Cairns Cup chess tournament held at St.Louis, US (United States). She won the title after finishing 6 points off 9 rounds. Reigning world champion Ju Wenjun finished with 5.5 points secured 2nd place while Russia’s Alexandra Kosteniuk came 3rd who finished with 5 points followed by Ukranian Mariya Muzychek with 5 points and India’s Harika Dronavalli secured 5th with 4.5 points. This tournament consists of 9 round classical events & top 3 finishers will receive $45,000, $35,000 & $25,000 respectively.

  The Tokyo 2020 Organising Committee has revealed the official Games motto: “United by Emotion”. The motto emphasises the power of sport to bring together people from diverse backgrounds of every kind and allow them to connect and celebrate in a way that reaches beyond their differences. The official Olympic motto is “Citius, Altius, Fortius” or “Faster, Higher, Stronger”, but each host city chooses its own motto to accompany that edition of the Games. The Games will bring together athletes from more than 200 National Olympic Committees and the Refugee Olympic Team, as well as millions of spectators & media representatives.

  Asian Wrestling Championship 2020 starts in New Delhi. It will be held at the KD Jadhav Hall of Indira Gandhi Stadium. The event will have a total of 30 weight classes, 10 each in Freestyle Men, Women, and Greco Roman. Team India will be represented by a 30 member squad with Deepak Punia, Dahiya, Bajrang, and Vinesh leading the pack. India last hosted the championships in 2017. The 2018 edition was held at Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan and in 2019, Xi’an province of China. Asian Wrestling Championship organized by Asian Associated Wrestling Committee (AAWC). In 1979 men’s tournament began and in 1996 women’s tournament was first staged, after that, it is held every year.

  Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the 13th Conference of Parties (COP) of the Convention on the Conservation of Migratory Species of Wild Animals (CMS) at Gandhinagar, Gujarat. The theme of the Conference is “Migratory species connect the planet and we welcome them home.” The CMS COP 13 logo is inspired by ‘Kolam’, a traditional art form from southern India. In the logo, Kolam art form is used to depict key migratory species in India like Amur falcon, humpback whale and marine turtles. As the host, India will be designated the President for the next three years. India is a signatory to the Convention on Conservation of Migratory wild Animals since 1983.

  The Indian Railways South Central Railways (SCR) zone has become the 1st zonal railway in the country to have functional “energy neutral” railway stations on the network. The South Central Railways has converted a total of 13 railway stations into “energy neutral” stations, which is the highest amongst all the zones across the Indian Railways network. The energy-neutral railway stations are capable of meeting 100 per cent energy requirements by tapping into solar power through solar photovoltaic panels which have been commissioned at the station buildings.
The 13 energy-neutral railway stations of the SCR zone are listed:
  • Ghatkesar station of the Secunderabad division has solar panels with an installed capacity of 10 kWp
  • Dharur station of the Secunderabad division has solar panels with an installed capacity of 5 kWp
  • Raghunathpalli station of the Secunderabad division has solar panels with an installed capacity of 5 kWp
  • Mellacheruvu station of the Secunderabad division has solar panels with an installed capacity of 5 kWp
  • Ontimitta station of the Guntakal division has solar panels with an installed capacity of 7.5 kWp
  • Kadiyam station of the Vijayawada division has solar panels with an installed capacity of 10 kWp
  • Dwarapudi station of the Vijayawada division has solar panels with an installed capacity of 10 kWp
  • Godavari station of the Vijayawada division has solar panels with an installed capacity of 10 kWp
  • Dharmabad station of the Hyderabad division has solar panels with an installed capacity of 11.6 kWp
  • Sivungaon station of the Hyderabad division has solar panels with an installed capacity of 2.2 kWp
  • Umri station of the Hyderabad division has solar panels with an installed capacity of 17.43 kWp
  • Karkheli station of the Hyderabad division has solar panels with an installed capacity of 2.2 kWp
  • Bolsa station of the Hyderabad division has solar panels with an installed capacity of 2.95 kWp

  Indian-origin Alok Sharma was named the new UK Minister in charge of the crunch UN climate talks to be hosted by Britain. He has been promoted to the post of Secretary of State for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy in UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s Cabinet reshuffle. He will take charge of the crucial summit ‘COP26′ as its former president was removed amid controversy.

 The Government of Telangana hosting Bio-Asia Summit 2020 in Hyderabad between February 17, 2020, and February 19, 2020. The main objective of the summit is to explore the capabilities of Life Science Companies and their investments. The theme of the Summit is Theme: Today for Tomorrow. The summit will be attended by researchers, investors, conglomerates, start-ups and health care representatives. They will focus on the needs of the evolving Life Science industry.

  The International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) 43rd Governing Council meeting was held in Rome, Italy. The 43rd sessions will focus on the overarching theme “Investing in sustainable food systems to end hunger by 2030″. The theme highlights how IFAD’s role and experience in supporting sustainable, inclusive, nutritious and efficient food systems uniquely place it in a position to contribute to Sustainable Development Goals (SDG2). During the meet, the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) stated that the sequences of climate change and its impacts on agriculture will push around 100 million people to poverty by 2030.

  Uttarakhand Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat launched the web portal of Shri Badrinath and Shri Kedarnath temple committee. The web portal has been developed by Uttarakhand state National Informatics Centre. Through this website, it will be possible to easily access information regarding Chardhaam tour from any part of the world.  He also released Shri Badrinath and Kedarnath temple committee’s diary and calendar.
