A Common Entrance Test, designated as Engineering, Agricultural and Medical Common Entrance Test (EAMCET) is the gateway for entry into the various under graduate level professional courses offered in different Government and Private Colleges of Andhra Pradesh. The test, which is taken by a huge number of aspirants, is presently conducted by Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University (JNT), Hyderabad on behalf of the Andhra Pradesh State Council of Higher Education (APSCHE). An expert committee constituted by the Educational Department of the State Government decides the modus-operandi of the test.
The APSCHE, which has been set up as per the recommendation of the National Education Policy 1986 is the first of its kind in the Country, and responsible for all matters related to the higher education of the state. The council is headed by a chairman appointed by the government of Andhra Pradesh from among the eminent educationist. Situated in the heart of the city at Kukatpally, JNT University, Hyderabad, has an environment of academic excellence with 'A' Grade accreditation by NAAC (National Assessment and Accreditation Council).
The EAMCET is conducted for two groups, that is, Engineering and Medical/Agriculture. The students opting for Medical studies have to appear in Physics, Chemistry and Biological Science papers. The obsession for the examination is so much that it is not uncommon to find cases wherein students have successfully cleared EAMCET but botched in higher secondary/intermediated examination. For example, according to a report more than 35,000 students who have qualified the EAMCET this year failed to clear Intermediate and Class XII examinations conducted by the Board of Intermediate Education, CBSE and ICSE respectively. Every year near about 4 lakhs students attempt EAMCET But wherein the number of Engineering aspirants are on rise with each passing year that for medical is on decline. For example in 2010 applications for medical studies has decline by nearly 15,000.As a result post-EAMCET, private medical colleges are struggling to fill their MBBS seats.
At present there are approximately 4300 seats available in
32 medical and 21 dental colleges, both government and private/minority, in the state of AP.
85% of the seats are reserved in favor of the local candidates. Reservation categories include SC/ST/BC, children of defense personnel, sports, NCC, GOI nominees.
The Government of AP has considered giving weightage to IPE Score to the extent of 25% in the EAMCET from 2009 onwards to benefit the students hailing from rural colleges in the State.
EAMCET is held at 25 centers across the state of AP. Candidates, who have studied the qualifying examination in Urdu medium and wish to avail assistance for translating the questions into Urdu, are generally allotted a test centre at Hyderabad.
The question papers of EAMCET are set both in English and Telegu.

EAMCET is regarded as one of the toughest entrance test of India because of its high and intense competition. Also the test is lengthy enough for an MCQ type question paper. To succeed in this examination of high and intense competition, one needs to proceed in a planned manner, from the very beginning. Prepare a study plan on the basis of the analysis of questions trends of past few years. Chapters from which maximum numbers of question asked should be given more weightage. This will definitely give an edge over others.
As for EAMCET medical, maximum impetus should be given to Biology subjects (Botany and Zoology) that alone account for 80 questions. Furthermore, every year, 10 to 12 questions in Biology subjects are found to be highly complicated by the students and these questions could decide the top ranks. So, a preparation of these subjects call for special attention. An analytical approach, supported with diagram and figures is what asked for to score well in this subject. Arihant's Objective Approach to Biology (7 Vol) is the best possible guide in this regards.
Similarly for other subjects, one should opt for the books and study material which boast of an exam -oriented, to-the-point, content dedicated to examination. The books, which not only give solid conceptual base but also equip one with quick and strong analytical thought process to answer even the trickiest question quickly. Only then it would be possible for the candidates to get maximum results in shortest possible time. And here again Arihant's Resource Books for Medical Entrance scores over others. The series includes:
• Objective Approach to Physics Vol-1
• Objective Approach to Physics Vol-2
• Objective Approach to Physical Chemistry
• Objective Approach to Inorganic Chemistry
• Objective Approach to Organic Chemistry.
To have a real quick shot one can go through Arihant's 40 Days' series for Medical entrance that includes:
• 40 Days' Physics
• 40 Days' Chemistry
• 40 Days' Biology
You should also follow some EAMCET specific study materials. For example: Arihant's self-study guide for EAMCET Medical Entrance. This will fine tune your preparation for the exam. You will be able to know the exact pattern of the questions asked in EAMCET, also how to proceed with answers.
• Start preparation for EAMCET along with your board preparation.
