Christian Medical College and Hospital known simply as CMC Vellore, is one of the largest and most reputed medical centers in India. This century old Christian institution was founded by Ida S. Scudder in 1918, primarily for women. The medical school was upgraded into a university affiliated medical college granting the degree of MBBS in 1942, under the name Christian Medical College and became co-educational since 1947.
The Christian Medical College today is a referral tertiary care hospital. CMC's graduates stay on to work in hospitals affiliated to the Christian Medical Association of India. The College is owned and administered by the Christian Medical College Vellore Association which is a Society registered under the Societies Registration Act of India. The Association is made up of 54 churches and other Christian Medical organizations. The Christian Medical College Council, which comprises the members of the Association and other Indian and foreign organizations, governs the CMC Vellore Association.
Each year 60 students, of which at least 25 are women, are admitted for the undergraduate medical course (MBBS of The Tamil Nadu Dr.M.G.R, Medical University). Scholarships are available to students who need financial assistance. The students and the faculty live in a residential campus. CMC is consistently ranked amongst the top three medical colleges in the country, ranking second in the 2009 survey.
The CMC -Vellore MBBS course is of four and a half year's duration and is followed by one year of Compulsory Rotating Residential Internship. The course begins with a short foundation course exposing students to basic principles of Communication, Ethics and Problem Based Learning. The Undergraduate course in Medicine comprises of three stages. The first stage of 12 months duration consists of the basic sciences of Anatomy, Physiology and Biochemistry. The next stage is of 18 months duration and comprises Clinical and Para-clinical subjects. The last stage is of 24 months duration covering different areas of medical sciences.
A block posting in Community Health is an integral part of each stage. Posting in mission hospitals and secondary care centers is a unique feature of CMC medical education. The internship lasting for 12 months comprises of postings in Community Health, Medicine, Surgery, Obstetrics & Gynecology, Child Health, Orthopedics, Casualty and short electives in various specialties. All these are as per the guidelines of the Medical Council of India.
Christian Medical College, Ludhiana Society (Regd.) again is a Christian Educational and Research Institution established, maintained and administered by Christian Churches and Christian agencies in India. It was the first medical school for women in Asia, founded by Dame Edith Mary Brown and became officially recognized by the government in 1915.
In 1953, the college started the MBBS programme affiliated with Panjab University, Chandigarh admitting men and women students. Since July 1999, the college has been affiliated with Baba Farid University o1 Health Sciences, Faridkot. The college offers Post-graduate Diploma, Degree, Super specialty and Doctoral courses.
Admission to MBBS- (50 seats), BDS (40 seats), collectively called as UG courses of this institution, are on the basis of merit obtained in the Admission Written Test conducted by Christian Medical College Ludhiana Society. All the admissions are made with the approval of Baba Farid University of Health Sciences, Punjab: of the Government as may be applicable; Medical Council of India (as may be applicable).
The primary aim of the Christian Medical College Ludhiana is to make a significant contribution to the health standards of all communities of our nation with a special emphasis on health care in the rural underserved and unreached areas/ communities in India. This mandate is fulfilled by graduates who serve in such areas after their training.
In fact, all MBBS pass out from CMC Ludhiana are required to enter into a service agreement without which admission will not be granted. Service Agreement is for a minimum period of two years after completion of the course in a hospital or in an institution managed by Christian Medical College Ludhiana Society or its member body/church.

• The form can be obtained from designated branches of The Federal Bank Ltd by paying the required amount.

• Applicants must be at least 17 years of age on 31st December of the year of admission to 1st MBBS.

Test will be conducted in the subject of Physics, Chemistry and Biology (Botany + Zoology) of 12th class standard under 10+2 system and also include a test on General Aptitude. All questions will be multiple choice and objective type. Each of the questions will be provided with 4 options, one of which being the correct answer. The test is designed to measure knowledge and basic understanding of the subject matter. The test also measures the reasoning, problem solving and analytical ability of the applicant. There will be no negative marking for wrong answers. Duration for the exam is 2 & 1/2 hrs. The examination will be conducted in English.
It is mandatory for all Christian applicants to pass the Bible Test for considering them under the Christian Minority categories, which is of ½ hrs. held on same day/same seating, once the UG-AWT is over. Christian applicants who fail in the Bible Test will not be considered under the Christian Minority category.

CMC-Vellore
Entrance test for CMC-Vellore is an objective type exam of MCQ pattern questionnaire. The question paper is divided into 4 sections of Physics, Chemistry, Biology and General Ability. Each of the questions (of each section) is provided with 5 options, one of which is being the correct response. The duration of the whole exam is 3 hr & 10 min. The total number of questions asked is 300, of which 60 questions each on Physics, Chemistry & Biology (total 180 questions-to be answered in 120 minutes). Rest 120 questions are on General Ability including Speed and Accuracy and a few questions on issues of current topical interest (to be answered in 70 minutes). The General Paper will consist of questions of a general nature, including very basic science, general knowledge, current awareness and general ability. Each correct response is provided with 1 mark; and there is no provision of negative markings. The examination will be conducted in English.

Students who perform well in the test are called for practical test, followed by personal interview. All admissions are based on inter-se merit. At the time of the interviews, Christian students who have applied under the sponsored category will be given a test of Bible Knowledge. The College recognizes that merit is not merely academic merit but is, in addition, a collection of various other factors, which go towards suitability to pursue a professional career.
The selection process / admission will be subject to any orders passed or that may be passed by the Government / University / Professional Councils. The decision of the selection committee is final.
