Way to Increase Your Concentration
Are you leafing through the pages of the book with your mind wandering elsewhere, even though you realize the importance of every minute ticking by ? Concentration problem is becoming the biggest problem faced by students these days. Concentration’s importance is supreme, especially for students like you, who prepare for competitive exams and devote long hours to study. Peer pressure, burden of expectations, coping with adolescence, mood swings, fatigue-reasons can be endless that playfully connive to divert your attention off your studies.
Precisely, a large number of students put in the number of hours required for preparation. Have you taken out little bit of time to introspect what is the difference between those who clear the exam and those who struggle for the next time? Concentration plays a key role in ensuring that the time you devote to studies lead to fruitful efforts.
Put in short, Concentration is taking your mind off may things and putting it at one place with utmost focus. Often, students become too ambitious. In the race of covering and learning topics faster than others, they overburden their mind with too many topics, hovering from one subject to another, only to discover minimal productivity and a heavy mind. Thus, it is extremely important that you set your priorities right first. Lay down on a piece of paper what all you have to cover. This will clear your mind from the clutter of waste thoughts and will give you the direction to proceed in the required manner. After listing down all the topics needed to be covered, number them as 1, 2 or 3 …., emphasizing which area deserves your attention first. Now give your wholehearted attention to the subject without bothering about other topics. As soon as you begin to give attention to one topic solely, you’ll soon find other unnecessary thoughts vanishing from your mind; this is what concentration is all about, remember!
Further, if the topic is new for you, then do not rush things. Rather give it time and be a little patient. Clear your basic fundas first and only then proceed towards problems of greater difficulty level. Establish a constructive relationship with you would give them time and effort, you’ll ultimately fall in love with the subject ands studying would no longer be burdensome. Rather, it would be FUN!
A Quick Recap –Necessary to Remember
Ř First understand clearly what concentration is : “Concentration is taking your mind off many things and putting it on one thing at a time.”
Ř Decide carefully what you want to concentrate on
Generally speaking, everyone has had experiences in total concentration. Go to a good adventure film at a movie theater. In the middle of it, stop watching the movie (this might be hard, but do it anyway) and look around at the people in the theater. What are they doing? They are absolutely still, eyes barely blinking, and their breath is slower. It would take a really major distraction to break their attention stream. These physiological signs may give you a hint about ways to increase your own concentration abilities.
Ř Some of the enemies of concentration skills are multi-taking i.e., trying to do many things all at the same time. Struggling despite lack of concentration can make the level of concentration from difficult to impossible. Then a habit of non-attention or inability to concentrate deeply is established and difficult to overcome.
Ř Take breaks. Go outside and breathe deeply or take a brisk walk. Make yourself do this often and you’ll be able to return to your task recharged and ready to focus more creatively.
