THE SUMMER SEASON

In India season is not the same throughout the country. When it is hottest in the plains, Shimla, Mussoorie and Darjeeling are very cold. When there is winter in west coast of India heavy rain falls on the coast of coromandal.
The Indian summer is the hottest season in the whole year. The rays of sun fall perpendicularly. Hence it is difficult to walk in the day. At mid-day we do not like to go out of doors because the heat is intense. The light is blinding in the day. We can do a little work only in the morning. The rich people make use of electric fans, coolers and air conditioners. Generally the greater part of the day is wasted. Sometimes it is very hot. We drink a glass of water again and again.
School and college hours are changed during summer. All institutions work in the morning. They are closed for all the summer. All educational offices work only up to noon. All offices and some of big shops use coolers or air conditioners.
Small rivers, ponds and tanks go dry in the season. There is a scarcity of water everywhere. The water in the wells sinks low. Cattle find grazing grounds dry. The glass becomes withered and insufficient. Hence cattle quench their thirst with muddy and foul water.
During summer beasts pant for breath. They seek shade and sit in it for rest. They do not like to wander in the burning heat. The birds hide themselves in the branches of the trees or holes of walls. Ponds and tanks dry up. The sky looks copper-red. The earth under the feet is hardened and hot. It is so hot that one cannot walk bare- footed.
Summer is the season of best fruits in our country. Mangoes, water-melons, Aaru, Oranges and other tasty fruits come in the market. These fruits quench our thirst during this dry season. The early morning is the most pleasant in summer. It is quite free from the terrible heat of the day. Cool breeze blows in the early hours of the day. The lovely birds sing their sweet songs. The days are long. The heat goes on increasing till the after- noon. Even the sun-set fails to give relief. Hot wind still goes on. It is after 8 o'clock at night that there is a little coolness. People generally sleep in the open space. Fans work to give us relief.
