The benefits conferred by science upon human society are very much evident. Science has given us thousands of gifts to make our life comfortable. Its achievements are numerous and wonderful, in every department of life. It has given eyes to the blind, ears to deaf as science has worked wonders in the field of medicine and surgery. Scientific inventions and discoveries have overcome many diseases which were thought to be incurable in the past. One of the wonders in the field of surgery is plastic surgery; it can transform an ugly person into a handsome beautiful one. It has discovered vaccines to conquer plague, typhoid, cholera and small pox. Heart transplantation is also a marvelous achievement.
With the help of science man has conquered time and space. We have cars, buses, ships, aero planes to move fast and save time. Not only this have had we had rockets and aircrafts to reach other planets. Man has already reached the moon. We have satellites used for communication and other developmental works. Science had brought a revolution in the means of communication. Telephone, telegraphs, telex, fax and internet to contact his relatives and friends at far off places. For the purpose of entertainment science has provided us radio, television, video games, VCR and cinemas. To improve the general level of intelligence, education and culture science has provided us printing technology which enables us to get cheap books, newspapers, magazines etc.
Electricity is another boon of science. Electricity gives us many types of comforts, air coolers and air-conditioners provide us leisure hours in hot summer season and room heaters provide heat in winter. It gives us light. Electricity is the most important invention of science.
But on the other hand some selfish people are using the inventions of science as a curse to human beings. After mechanization of industries the machine does the work of hundreds of people. Ultimately unemployment results in poverty. The invention of gun powder is one of the most dangerous inventions of science. Explosives, bombs, missiles, atom-bombs, hydrogen bombs and bacterial bombs are the dangerous inventions leading the world towards war. Atom bomb will wipe out. Mankind from the world. The specter of war and destruction haunts the world and nobody is safe.
Science can be a blessing or a curse by the way we use it. As long as we use it for development purposes it is a blessing, and if we use it for destruction it is a curse.
