It was the 14th November 1889 when the Great national hero Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru was born. This Freedom fighter with his indomitable strength and strong determination liberated India from the clutches of the British.

During the period of the freedom struggle, he did not ignore or forget the precious wealth of the nation children. He was greatly attached to them and would sneak a few hours to spend in their lovely company.

He was fond of them all, irrespective of any disparity. He liked to be among them, chat with them and listen to them patiently. The children obviously loved him and respected him.

He was called "Chacha Nehru" by them. Hence 14^thNovember has an importance of its own. The 14^thNovember is celebrated every year with enthusiasm in India. The day is called 'children's day' for obvious reasons. The great son of India is remembered by crores of children and other people.

On the occasion homages are paid to the great lender early in the morning on that day, people assemble in Shanti Van to pay homage to Nehru. High officials .and other visitors place wreaths at the Samadhi.

Prayers and hymns are chanted. Many tributes are paid to the great leader for his magnificent achievement. He is remembered the world over on this day.

Children can be seen in a jovial mood, celebrating the occasion and singing with full gusto in praise of Nehru They are seen in pretty dresses. They organize cultural programmes and recitation of patriotic songs.

Every school celebrates this day. They extend invitations to some leaders or V.I.P.S. They laud the children and give away prizes to the children. Sweet is distributed and speeches are delivered by the chief guests.

The commendable work of Pt. Nehru is highlighted, and children are advised to tread on the path shown by the great leader. They are advised to imbibe the values and qualities of leadership, fearlessness tenacity and sound character.
