The Monkey-Man

Introduction. The monkey-man is a common figure in a town or a village. He goes from town to town and village to village. He has a monkey and a little drum with him. He announces his daily visit by the beat of his drum. Boys and girls run from their houses to see his monkeys and their feats.

His appearance. The monkey-man is a peculiar Figure; He belongs to a lower class called Kanjar. He has an unlearned beard on his dirty face. His dress is always loose on his body which is quite sturdy. He is generally dressed in poor and shabby clothes. His kurta hangs from his shoulders reaching down his ankles. He wears a lehmad instead of pair of pyjamas and pants.

His performance. When boys and girls gather round him in quite a large number he stops healing the little drum. Then he lies his monkey with a loose rope. The rope can spread to three or four meters- The monkey dances to the beat of the drum and the indications of monkey man’s sticks   The monkey stands on his hind and Walks like a man. He goes round the master. Sometimes he Jumps and sometimes it claps with his hands. It is really a fun to see the monkey doing all' these things like human beings. Then the monkey-man tells the interesting story of monkey's marriage- He asks the monkey to go U) his Father- in-law's house or sasural. The monkey reaches its father-in-law's house with a staff in its hand, and a cap on its head. Sometimes he looks into the mirror lo see his face. He tries to set his cap on its head and wipes of dust from his face. It behaves like a bridegroom. It creates a lot of fun. It makes us laugh with its motions.

Behaviour of the spectators. The spectators are mostly little boy and girls. They jump with joy. They laugh and laugh. They clap their hands with joy. When the monkey-man begs for the money they run to their houses and bring flour or bread for the monkey-man. Some bad boys throw pebbles at the monkey.

Conclusion- Thus the monkey-man goes about to carry on his trade. He is never tired of his trade- His talks are very funny. His peculiar dress is always shabby. You can see oil stains on it. He is always welcomed by the youngsters, at all times. His monkey is always trained in a peculiar way.
