Let us keep of politics from education

Category : Editorial

Let us stop this "Marche Arriere" right here and now.

After more than twelve years of school education and a few years in colleges, if our students cannot be trained to think of themselves as Indians first and Indians last, we cannot expect anybody else to take up this job.

Economic or social backwardness has to eliminated/ not only physically but mentally. Forced segregation of the backward-economic or social, is a crime. But by voluntary segregation by attaching a tag to themselves, any section will only harm themselves in the long run.

To flaunt anybody's social status or higher economic power is arrogance. To flaunt somebody's poverty and backwardness - real or imaginary is antiwisdom. It is not somebody's fault that one is born poor, but it is one's own fault if one does not work and earn and does not have the confidence in one's ability to win. Humility, modesty and goodness are qualities which should be cultivated by the rich and the poor, by those who wear white shirts, blue shirts, striped shirts or other dresses. Rich or poor, both should stand erect and keep the values with pride. St. Stefan's and super 30's - one wicket down, each - sorry. You missed the larger picture.

It was not segregation and reservation that solved the problems of the blacks in U.S.A. Martin Luther King was a visionary. He taught that only by total integration one can have equality of opportunities. He was a philosopher and a great player who wanted to have a fair competition without handicaps or special medals. This has improved all the Americans. Now to speak of whites and blacks is as foolish as speaking of red-heads and white or black heads. To speak of caste is equally foolish. We strongly feel that the teachings of Mahatma Gandhi and Martin Luther King are the only effective medicines for today's ills. The life and work of these philosophers should be studied by all.

We are engaged now in a much bigger battle- the transformation of education up to the highest level. We need not compare ourselves to any other country. Let us put on immediate goal in every sphere of our activity – studies, cleanliness, posture, and great thoughts. Let us overtake it tomorrow and put up bigger goals. Our greatest competitors are ourselves. Let us overtake our own goals every time.
