My Likes and Dislikes at Home

Category : Essays

There is no place like home, as the saying goes, but I guess, it is just a matter of opinion. Nevertheless, I am sure everybody has some likes and some dislikes associated with his or her home, the amounts vary between different persons,

I, for one has more likes than dislikes at home; when the weekends come, I simply love getting up late in the morning instead of having to force myself up early to go to school. Lying in bed on a sunday morning and listening to the sparrows chirping is what I consider as a pleasant change from the droning of teachers. Ah, it lifts my spirit up and makes the whole day good. Strange how the meaningless chirping can be—it is more pleasant than the intelligent droning.

listening to the radio and watching TV (good programmes only) are what I like to do. especially during the weekends and holidays when more programmes are on air. I particularly like sentimental music played, not too loudly, but when my younger brother comes and put on a hard-rock song at full blast, 1 certainly dislike the offending din. It jars my ears. 1 have read somewhere that loud music can cause deafness. I told my brother so, but he does not seem to hear. Maybe he is getting deaf already.

I like and dislike mealtimes—I like the food but I dislike the hassle of dining with my brothers and sisters. There are too many of them crowding at the table at one time. It is not an easy task getting a lair share from five brothers and three sisters all of whom seem to be perpetually hungry- My parents have a hard time trying to instill some manners into these hungry devils. Sometimes they succeed. More often they not, the food is gone in a flash/ he who hesitates is lost or rather, hungry, in our home. Still I can say one thing good for these ravenous appetites—nothing ever goes waste.

I like the time I spend playing games with my brothers and sisters. We have endless fun, much to the dismay of my overworked mother. However, we compensate for our merrymaking by giving her a helping hand in the household chores like washing dishes and sweeping the floor. We usually go though the chores in double-quick time, but soon we have more chores to do because of the mess we leave behind everytime we play our games.

When it is time for doing homework in the evening, it is usually not an easy task to concentrate. 1 know what my mother must have felt when she tried to do some work with kids running chaotically around her. It is quite impossible even to do some simple arithmetic with my baby brother climbing all over me, or screaming his head off whenever he feels like doing so. I dislike it even more when my parents have to raise their voices time and again to reprimand an offender My poor parents must be wishing that all of us were grow up and leave home so that they can have some peace and quietness in the house.

All in all, I would say that I like life at home—the companionship, fun and the joy of living that can only be derived from a group of youngsters who don't have a single care in life—of course, there are times when we have clashes, sometimes bitter, but these occasions are rare and quickly forgotten. The likes are more abundant and memorable than the dislikes.
