Cinema is one of the most wonderful gifts of science and has created a niche for itself in the hearst of people of all ages, sections and groups. In today's fast life cinema is one of the cheapest forms of entertainment for millions of people. It is a good pastime for people.

From its beginning and till now, cinema industry has made a rapid progress. In the beginning there were black and white movies which have. Been replaced by coloured movies. The number and quality of cinema halls has increased manifold. New and modern techniques are being applied to get the best results.

Big cinema posters with attractive poses are seen on the walls of cities and towns for advertising and announcing the new coming movies in the city. Long queues of fans can be seen before the booking windows to get their tickets booked in advance.

Cinema is source of enjoyment and entertainment and also serves as a recreational device. It suits people of all tastes and all types.

The educative value of cinema also cannot be ignored.

It is a source of knowledge and information of the happenings around us. There are religious movies which attract people in towns and villages and have a soothing effect on them. Historical cinema carries us into the past society, culture and lifestyle. Social films expose social evils of illiteracy, dowry system, untouchability and casteism and thus leads to social reforms by awakening the public. Some films awaken the masses politically by exposing rich people and politicians who exploit and cheat the poor people.

The art films made in India have earned a good name abroad and are being appreciated by public. The cinema industry enables thousands of people to earn livelihood. It presents a great opportunity for aspiring stars, singers, writers and poets to develop their talents and earn name and fame through this industry.

But cinema has proved harmful also. Now-a-days the films are full of sex and violence which leave bad effect on the children. They learn bad habits from them and must see films whatever may come.

For this, they leave their classes and steal money from their parent's pocket. They try to copy film stars in fashion and speech and learn to smoke and drink and thus waste their parent's hard- earned money.
