Learning can be divided into two major categories –arts and Science. While the arts deal with the beauty of filings around us, science is concerned with the utility of things.

This is a broad definition of the two subjects and science seems to be the subject of the twenty first century. The whole world is gradually getting increasingly dependent on the fruits that science brings.

Inventions like the generations of electricity, air travel, ship cars etc. an all the gifts of science. Had vehicles not been invented, we would still have been moving around in carts.

Water can be purified by the knowledge of chemicals and we get clean water for drinking. This protects us from diseases. Science has made this life much more comfortable in all respects.

We can cool our homes with coolers, fans .and air conditioners all of which are the outcome of a good deal of scientific research. We keep warm in winter with the help of heaters and blowers.

We can preserve food in refrigerators and keep them fresh for a long time. Water is cooled and delicious frozen desserts can be made.

Science manages to save the life of both man and animal in times of sickness. Diseases and epidemics can be controlled by medicines.

Vaccines have been discovered which have almost eradicated some diseases from the face of the earth Polio, small pox etc are diseases which are practically removed from the world.

Science has simplified our life. Computers make data recording and programme planning much simpler. The entire railway system in India is now being computerized.

Man has been able to reach the moon and learn .allabout the mysteries of space and the wonders of sea world. Science has brought peace but it has also been used to make weapons and bombs.

As long as man guards himself against the misuse science, the teaching and learning of science will only bring prosperity and peace to the earth.
