A new trend has been developed among the people of villages. They are steadily migrating to cities in search of better employment. As a result the cities like Delhi, Mumbai and Kolkata are becoming over crowded. They have a population of several millions. No doubt these cities have certain advantages which attract the outsiders but if we go in detail we will find that in comparison to advantages, disadvantages are numerous.
City life is in no way healthy. There is lot of pollution here. Air pollution, water pollution, noise pollution have made the city a hell. There are vehicles emitting lot of smoke and factories giving out carbon in the air. The people are bound to breathe this polluted air. Not only this,, in cities we hardly get anything pure. The food which we eat with relish are entirely unwholesome and injurious. All this gives rise to many (Uncases. City life is very costly. Rents are very high due to which common people get very little accommodation. There is n problem of distances too and therefore much time is wasted In coming and going from one place to another.
Again, we do not find much sympathy here. People are elf centered and they lack touch with others. Neither they like to visit in their neighbourhood nor they invite anyone. In absence of fellow feeling it seems, sometimes, that humanity has been vanished somewhere.
These are the problems people have to face while living In big cities. But we can't ignore those advantages and Opportunities which only cities provide. We have good arrangement of education here. There are reputed schools, colleges and universities which cater to the educational needs of the career makers. Even ordinary people can give good
education to their wards. Engineering and Medical institutions of top repute are set up here. Another advantage of cities is that there are ample employment opportunities. Apart from many national and multinational companies, cities have a
large number of factories and mills. There are big offices, centres of trade and commerce, providing various types of jobs to the aspirants according to their qualification. No one is without employment here and perhaps this is the reason why people of all categories get attracted to cities. Even illiterate ladies are also engaged in some work.
We find ample medical facilities in cities. There are hospitals, dispensaries which provide medical treatment at cheaper rates. There are well-qualified doctors with latest medicines and medical equipments.
Beside these major advantages, we find many fine opportunities for amusement and recreation. There are theatres and cultural centres. Their are beautiful parks and gardens. There are big restaurants and hotels. There are big shopping centres and industrial complexes.
One thing more in cities we have proper arrangement of electricity. Power failure is rare. It is perhaps the greatest charm of cities. People can enjoy a comfortable life with facilities of cooler, A.C. etc.
Thus big cities have both advantages and disadvantages. If we are hanker to bring all round development in our personality, we have to ignore or face some of the minor problems of city life.
