Introduction. An adult is a person who is twenty one or more than twenty one years old. Hence, adult education means the teaching of adults.

The illiterate and partially literate. For the purpose of education Adults may be divided into two classes- the illiterate and the partially literate. The aim of adult   education is to see that every person in the country knows at least three R's reading writing and arithmetic. Such knowledge is very necessary for every person in the country.

Its aims. of adult education is that such adults as are partially literate should be taught further. They should he taught their Right .s and duties as citizen.

The adult education is based on the idea that no one can be completely happy unless he or she is educated. After all culture opens the eye of mind. He that is mentally baling cannot hope to be completely happy.

Minimum expectation. The minimum that is expected by adult education is the ability to read the daily newspaper and to follow the curren5t events of the world.

The first start of adult education in India. In India. Adult education was first started in Bombay in the shape of social service. The work was done in night schools. With increase of the number of pupils the number of school has also increased.

Free education. Generally almost all the work of adult education is done free. It is done in the spirit of social service. The importune of this work has now been fully known all over the country. The government of states has extended their help to adult education schools and colleges.

A Noble Work. Adult education is a noble work in which the students can take part. if is a plan of work by which every we who knows a little, can pass it on to those who know-less

Conclusion. it is a matter of pride that more and more adult education societies are coming into existence in different parts of the country.
